Cancer is a disease that affects the lives of almost every person on Earth. Whether one’s self, family member, friend, mentor, neighbor, teacher, pet, or favorite celebrity battles this disease, it makes an impact on every life.
This is why, for the past four years, Team FSF has been a part of the annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Middle Village. We have a great team of dedicated members, many of them students from our religious school, who come out every year to raise funds and awareness for cancer research, support, and education. The Relay always has a theme, and this year’s theme was Disney, so of course our team picked a team theme of Star Wars! We had many glow items at our station, where people could make a donation in exchange for an item, and we hosted a glow juggling contest at 2:30am up at the main stage for the event.
More than half of our team stayed overnight, resting in tents around 4am and getting up at dawn to being breaking camp. We were blessed with perfect weather for late June – in the sixties! We raised nearly $5,000 all told, and we look forward to participating again next year.
